How To Have Stress Free Mornings

If you have been meaning to start your day more mindfully, but don’t know how to start – this blog is for you.

It’s a known fact that how you start your morning sets the tone for the rest of your day.

So it’s important that you start your day with something which makes you feel good not crappy.

I prefer to have a slow start to the day, so I keep my mornings totally relaxed, device free, and this allows me to be very intentional about my first two hours after waking up. As a result, my family also feels the positive energy – nobody rushes and everything gets done on time, pretty much all weekdays, which are now school days too. I have been practicing all these habits for quite sometime and all I want to say is that my mornings have never been more calm and mindful since I adopted these healthy habits. So whether you are a working parent, or a SAHM, or even if you live alone, try these morning rituals for a week and feel the difference. I promise you will be benefitted in some way.

Deep breathing is powerful. Diaphragmatic or deep breathing brings oxygen to the brain which stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for regulating heartbeat, blood flow, breathing, and digestion. Deep breathing helps you to avoid the “fight-or-flight” response (acute stress response) to mentally or physically terrifying situations.

As soon as you wake up, sit upright in your bed, and take five deep breaths. Slowly increase the breath count each week. You can say a prayer or express your gratitude while you take deep breaths.

Stretching first thing in the morning can relieve any tension or pain from sleeping the night before. It also helps increase your blood flow and prepares your body for the day ahead. Make it a part of your self care routine. Doing it in the morning will give you a sense of accomplishment as you have done something for your mental as well as physical well being.

Tip: Start with 5 minutes of stretching routine. Join our wellness community on FB to learn some easy yoga stretches.

When you sleep, your body works hard to remove dead cells and toxins. New immune cells are also generated in your gut. When you wake up in the morning your mind and body are fresh and ready for the day. Checking your phone first thing after waking up distracts your mind and as a result you are not able to prioritize tasks for the day ahead. This sets a tone of distraction for rest of the day. Not to forget this habit also robs you off your time and attention. The information overload is not needed in the early hours of morning when you are just setting the tone of your day. This may also cause unwanted stress and anxiety.

Tip: Put your phone on airplane mode at night and make it a habit to turn it on next morning only after breakfast.

How do I get started ? Glad you asked….
