We have a tea lover in the family who enjoys a cup of tea after coming back from work. I was looking for a healthy snack which could be paired with his evening tea. This dish is ready in less than ten minutes and finishes even faster every single time ! Since it has Tofu, you can have it on a regular basis. If Tofu does not appeal your taste buds, substitute it with paneer cubes. This is a very healthy post work out snack or any time snack. For the upcoming navratri festival, you can eat this as much as you can as it has no onions and garlic.
Course : Appetizer
Difficulty level: Very Easy
Ready In: 10 minutes
Serves : 1
1 tsp olive oil
4 oz or 100 gms ( about 1/2 cup when cubed ) Extra Firm Tofu, sliced into large rectangles
2 small boiled potatoes, cubed, 1 cup approx.
Rock salt and black pepper as per taste
1/2 tsp Chaat masala
1 tsp finely chopped cilantro
1 tsp lime juice
Heat 1 tsp oil in a small pan. Stir fry tofu rectangles, two minutes each side on high flame.
Remove tofu from pan when golden brown.
In the same pan, saute potato cubes for about two minutes on medium flame. Remove when potatoes turn golden ( 2-3 minutes ).
Cut the tofu rectangles into smaller cubes. It is easier to cook tofu as a single piece, and then cut it into desired size. You may cut it before cooking and then pan fry each piece, it will just take longer to flip each single cube.
Sprinkle all the spices and lime juice over tofu and potato cubes. Mix well and garnish with cilantro before serving.
Savor it with masala chai.
You may skip cooking the tofu and potato and just sprinkle them with all the spices and enjoy this spicy chaat cold especially in summers. But you would definitely want to eat it warm during winters 🙂
Tofu is cholesterol free & a good source of protein and calcium.
Potato is a good source of vitamins B1, B3 and B6 and minerals such as potassium, phosphorus and magnesium, and contains folate, pantothenic acid and riboflavin.
