Cuisine American
- 3/4 cup milk any
- 1-2 tbsp pumpkin puree see recipe notes
- 1-2 tbsp sugar / maple syrup adjust the sweetness as per your taste
- 1/2 tsp pure vanilla essence
- 1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice plus more for sprinkling, see recipe notes for alternative
- 1/4 cup expresso or strong brewed coffee
- Whipped cream to garnish optional
Add milk, pumpkin puree, and sugar to a saucepan. Heat over medium heat. Heat until hot, but do not boil.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in the vanilla, pumpkin pie spice, and the coffee.
Pour the mixture into a mug. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice.
- Milk: This drink tastes best with whole milk, but you can substitute with 2 % or skim milk. Any non-dairy milk will also work.
- Sugar: You can adjust the sweetness as per your liking. You can also use a sugar substitute.
- Pumpkin Pie Spice Blend: You can buy pumpkin pie spice at a local grocery store. Or make it at home by mixing the following spices in a spice jar: 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon + 2 teaspoons ground ginger + 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg + 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves.
- Pumpkin Pie Spice Blend Substitute: Pumpkin pie spice has a large percentage of cinnamon, so you can also use just cinnamon as a substitute. It won’t have nearly the complexity of the other spices, but it works.
- For very yound kids, if you prefer to skip real coffee/expresso, feel free to substitute it with 1/4 teaspoon of decaf instant coffee powder. Add it along with milk in the first step.
- More Pumpkin Flavor: Some of you might prefer a stronger pumpkin flavor. Just add an extra tablespoon of pumpkin puree. Keep experimenting until you find the right intensity of pumpkin flavor.
