Edible Lego Blocks – DI

I know I’m a little late in sharing this tutorial. And I entirely blame it on summers.

These edible lego blocks were made for lego theme birthday party for my son last month.

I watched few you tube videos and they all called for measuring board with cutter for exact proportions. Honestly I didn’t have that much time to buy one. Hence I thought of using whatever I have in my kitchen to make these blocks.

So here is the tutorial with lots of pictures. Feel free to ask questions if you have any !

Requirements:

Fondant: White or Colored ( I used store bought white fondant )

Rolling pin

Clean board ( I used my chopping board )

Sharp knife

A pair of tweezers ( I have separate ones for baking. Please don’t use the ones from your makeup box)

Baking/ Pastry Brush

Water – 2 tablespoons approximately

Edible colors if you are using white fondant. I used green, blue and red.

Directions

I used store bought white fondant and added different colors.

If you have colored fondant, then you can start right away. Make small balls of the desired colored fondants.

If you have white fondant, make 3-4 balls. To each ball add the desired food color and keep kneading it individually till you get the desired color. Take one ball at a time and work on it. Make sure the remaining ones are in ziplock to prevent drying.

You will need at least two fondant balls of each color ( 12 cupcakes and a small cake can be decorated )

Once you have all the colored balls ready, start rolling one at a time.

Make sure the others are still in a ziplock.

Roll the fondant ball about 1/2 inch thick and cut it into a large square or rectangle. Using your sharpest knife start cutting out rectangles/squares.

I didn’t use exact lego measurements. I had real lego blocks by my side and used them as guide for approximate size idea.

Likewise, work on the other colored fondant balls and get the desired shapes using a rolling pin and knife.

Use the remaining fondant balls to make the rounded lego tips. Roll the fondant in any shape and once it’s 1/2 inch thick, use an icing tip and start piercing the rolled fondant.

Once you have cut enough small circles, brush some water with a pastry brush over the cut lego pieces. This will act as a glue for the circle toppers. Now using tweezers, carefully place 6-8 circles over each lego piece.

A presentable set of small cake and 12 cupcakes …mission accomplished !!

If you have extra legos, store them in a cardboard box .
